Geocoding Street View

Google's street-view has photographs of most houses on most streets. You can try your hand at Phototelling without a camera or leaving your own desk.

This skips the best part of the experience but might help you understand how the workflow works.

Find the location you want to photograph. Zoom as required to screen capture a well-composed image without computer controls in view.

Screen capture on Mac is Command-Shift-4. Frame the shot then click. This creates a large file to be squeezed and renamed before continuing.

Notice that the geocoordinate appears in the browser's location bar. Select and copy this to become the new name of the image file. expand

The renamed file still needs to be converted to a squeezed jpeg file. On Mac use Preview to select a pixel width of 640 then Save As jpeg format.

Tools >> Adjust Size... >> Width: 640

Repeat for several images as if you were walking the block. Then resume the Phototelling Doorways workflow as if you were just home from taking pictures.

See SW Prospect Drive for an arm-chair example.
